Pony clubs gather for zone school

WUDINNA residents might have wondered what was happening as horses, camper vans etc occupied the west of Ceduna in the pony club grounds.

Wudinna Le Hunte Pony Club hosted the 2016 annual Eyre Peninsula Pony Club Zone School.

Thirty horses and riders attended, travelling from towns across the Eyre Peninsula includingCeduna, Port Lincoln and Kimba to take part in fourdays of instruction.

The pony club zone school is an excellent opportunity for young pony riders across the Eyre Peninsula to gather and learn new skills together and build strong bonds.

Instructors were Belinda Arnold ofWaikerie andAnn Olsen ofWudinna who stepped in at the last minute as the other instructor was unable to come due to ill health.

Zone school consists of flatwork lessons in the morning andshowjumping lessons in the afternoon.

The classes rotated lesson times each day.

On the Tuesday night, there wasa dinner in the senior citizens clubrooms, catered for by the Wudinna Hospital social club.

During the evening ribbons were presented for attendance at the school.

All age competition ribbons andchampionship sashes were also presented and araffle was drawn.

Port Lincoln Pony Club members performed a funny skit which was enjoyed by all of the other pony clubs watching.

The last item was a quiz with teams being made up of all age groups.

Much fun was had with buzzers being pushed to answer the question.

On Wednesday, a theory session was runin the morning and riding lesson in the afternoon to see how much the pony club riders had learnt during the zone school event.

Thursday was the final day of the zone school andmany returned home.

On Friday, those remaining had a go at a one-day event which consisted of dressage, cross country and showjumping.

Theyoungest rider in the event was justthreeyears old.

It was a good week.

It is exciting to see children of all ages and their parents setting aside time to enjoy these activities.

It was lots of work but theComplete Personal participants made it much easier.
