WESTMINISTERSchool wascrowned state championat the2016 South Australian Secondary Schools Team Racing Championships hosted by the Ceduna Sailing Club over the weekend.
Ceduna community members were treated to beautiful views with dozens of boats sailed on Murat Bay from last Thursday through to Saturday.
Aside from the boats, locals may have seen a few unfamiliar faces around town at the end of last week as many people from across the state travelled to Ceduna for the occasion.
The beautiful boats that weren’t already in the bay decorated the coast along the Ceduna foreshore for the three days the event ran.

Twenty teams from 12schools descended on Ceduna and some fierce completion occurred on the water. More than300 people from schools across South Australiatravelled to Ceduna to compete in the sailing event.Murat Bay provided perfect sailing conditions and a record 270 races were sailed over 27 rounds before finals.
The final was contested between Westminister and St Joseph’s School, Port Lincoln with Westminister winning the best of threeraces 2-0 and claiming back-to-back state championships.
The Ceduna teams did everybody proud with team onefinishing equal fifthand within one win of claiming a berth in the finals, team twofinished equal 10thand with many young members who were experiencing their first state championships have a great future ahead of themselves.
Both teams are to be congratulated with their conduct and sportsmanship showed over the regatta.It was an excellent opportunity for students from Ceduna to compete in a competition that is not frequently hosted in Ceduna.
It was highly enjoyable for both participants and spectators, and hopefully there will be more sailing in the Murat Bay coordinated by the sailing club in the future.
Visitors to Ceduna were impressed with thetown, its facilities, amenities and the friendly nature of residents.It was an excellent opportunity for Ceduna to show off our town to visitors from across the state.
Ceduna Sailing Club were congratulated with the organisation which allowed for the state titles to run smoothly and successfully.
The State Championships will be run in the metropolitan area in 2017 and Ceduna will next be on the rotation in 2022.
